The subject of a library fire that then branches into the library system and the value is astonishing and well-written. Orlean’s storytelling is indicative of ethnography and investigative journalism that I hadn’t thought of. The Library Book has instilled a new love of both libraries AND non-fiction in me. ![]() There is not an expected path or outcome because it is real life. The stories are not so clean or wrapped up. Not that that is a bad thing or there are stories that break that mold but with non-fiction, we get the unexpected. One of our latest conversations was about the predictability of a lot of fiction novels - the formula and expectation that good wins out in the end. Every Friday, my co-worker and I walk to get coffee and catch up. The last few months, I have been leaning more into non-fiction books. I have seen a lot of hype for The Library Book by Susan Orlean. ![]() 6/29/2023 0 Comments Adora by bertrice small![]() She is survived by her son Thomas, and her four grandchildren Chandler, Cora, Sophia, and Evan.įrom 1978 on, Small authored over 50 novels, including in the historical romance, fantasy romance and erotic contemporary genres. This revised edition includes new sections detailing the prophet’s expanding influence and his spreading of the message of Islam into Syria and its neighboring states. Scrupulous and exhaustive in its fidelity to its sources, Muhammad: His Life Based on the Earliest Sources is presented in a narrative style that is easily comprehensible, yet authentic and inspiring in its use of language, reflecting both the simplicity and grandeur of the story it tells. Based on the sira, the eighth- and ninth-century Arabic biographies that recount numerous events in the prophet’s life, it contains original English translations of many important passages that reveal the words of men and women who heard Muhammad speak and witnessed the events of his life. Martin Lings’ biography of Muhammad is an internationally acclaimed, comprehensive, and authoritative account of the life of the prophet. ![]() 6/28/2023 0 Comments Class paul fussell sparknotes![]() ![]() ![]() For readers who somehow missed this snide, martini-dry American classic, do have your assistant Tessa run out and get it immediately (Upper), or at least be sure to worriedly skim this magazine summary over a low-fat bagel (Middle), because Fussell’s bibelot-rich tropes still resonate.īack in 1983, Fussell-author of the renowned book The Great War and Modern Memory-argued that although Americans loathe discussing social class, this relatively new, rugged country of ours did indeed have a British-style class system, if less defined by money than by that elusive quality called taste.
